There are those who welcome the white noise of surf crashing in from the north.
I am not among them.
The violent blankness of it slashes across my nerves.
Peace will not come.
Memories of the sudden North Wind erasing sunny afternoons on Lake Huron.
Stealing five days of our summer.
Blowing away our blue and golden youth with gray chill.
Eating away at our shore, carrying off our boats and sand castles and even,
Once or twice, a loved one.
The wind is shifting.
